Seniors

Killorglin snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a dramatic try in the last play of the game to edge out Chorca Dhuibhne in a very exciting Kerry derby in Ballydavid today. The visitors were quick to settle and, after good early pressure, Tom Healy crashed over for the first try of the game which outhalf Luke O’Shea converted. The west Kerry side grew in to the game and were the better side for the rest of the half. Their efforts were rewarded with two penalties and two unconverted tries before the break and they deservedly led 16-7 at half time. Killorglin began brightly in the second half and improved intensity led to better defence and the creation of more chances. Poor discipline led to the home side receiving a red card for a dangerous challenge and then they went down to 13 men with their No. 8 getting a yellow card for a late tackle on the rampaging Seamus Doyle.Killorglin capitalised, with Tommy Moriarty going under the posts and Luke converting to narrow the gap to 2 points. Chorca Dhuibhne replied with a try of their own with a great solo effort but great team play saw Killorglin’s Neil O’ Shea finish really well in the corner for Killorglins 3rd try of the game. With the clock counting down, Killorglin pushed hard to get that all important try that would nudge them ahead. They showed great patience and character to keep going through the phases and finally the chance came. After a series of bursts, Luke fed centre John Michael Cronin O’Reilly who touched down for the bonus point 4th try but more importantly edging Killorglin ahead 23-24. The conversion was missed but great celebrations ensued as the final whistle sounded.
