Weekend Match Reports November 30th & December 1st
U8 & U10
U-8s and U-10s had their first blitz of the season when they took on Castleisland and Iveragh Eagles in Cahersiveen on Saturday morning. There were great skills on show along with some excellent defending by all the boys and girls. It was very encouraging to see our players continue to improve week to week, even though we were missing a few players due to illness and some victims of the Late Late Toy Show! Next week sees a home game against Chorca Dhuibhne. Thanks to all and to the parents and families who braved the cold and for transporting and supporting the players.
U14
Killorglin/Iveragh v Chorca Dhuibhne
The first half started very well with some good defending however Killorglin/Iveragh gave away too many penalties and they cost them 2 trys leaving the score at half time Chorca Dhuibhne 12 Killorglin/Iveragh 0.
Chorca Dhuibhne kicked off the second half, Killorgin/Iveragh regrouped from the start with good rucking and forward ball got Jake Curran over for our first try in the corner after 2 minutes. The try was unconverted.
Killorglin/Iveragh put pressure on Chorca dhuibhne from the restart and good rucking and solid defense put Killorglin/Iveragh in a good position for our backs to go forward. Good work on set plays should of put Mathew Spillane through for a try under the post but he was fouled by a high tackle and awarded a penalty try. The score was now 12 – 12 with 10 minutes left. Killorglin/Iveragh composed themselves and put in a great team effort by setting up good phases to get the ball out to Cian O’Brien from our 22 to score a try under the post converted by Connell. Killorglin/Iveragh showed great courage as Chorca Dhuibhne put on pressure for the last 5 minutes but Killorglin/Iveragh stood up and held out well to win the game. Final score Killorglin/Iveragh 19 Chorca Dhuibhne 12.
All the players put in first class performance a real team effort put in by all.
U16
Tough day at the office for an Understrength U16’s team as they took on Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne back west on Saturday. Conditions were dry but windy and we started the game playing up the hill and against the wind. A tough and disciplined performance would be required to keep the game tight for the first half but a slow start left the visitors trailing by two tries after ten minutes and only encouraged the home side, who were playing some nice rugby. Some good performances in defeat from Adam Casey, Ben O’Dwyer, Peadar Whelan, Aona O’Shea and Killian Spillane couldn’t hide the fact that Killorglin were well off the pace on the day. Aona O’Shea managed to grab a consolation try in the second half for Killorglin but the result was never in doubt. RCD 25 Killorglin 5.
