McElligott Cup Semi Final v Castleisland RFC

Killorglin traveled to Castleisland to play McElligott cup semi-final on Sunday 15th September. Killorglin kicked off and though Castleisland retained possession strong defensive work kept them penned in their own half. Killorglin attacked and awarded a penalty that was kicked to close to the line. From this a wave of attacks brought play close to the home goal line and Timmy Lynch touched down near the posts with conversion by Luke O’Shea. Castleisland restart went out on the full and from the resulting scrum on half way Killorglin soon  were back deep in Castleisland territory. Rob Lynch came close to crossing for a try before his brother Timmy grounded to make score 12-0. Castleisland regrouped and pressed and were award a penalty on the Killorglin 10 meter line. The penalty was in long range kick able territory but a while the kick had enough length the ball came off the post and strong defense kept the half time score at 12-0. Killorglin started strongly in the second half and a great passing movement ended with Mike Breen scoring on the right followed by a great conversion by Luke O’Shea. Further tries followed by Josh Morell, Shane O’Neill, Darragh Oshea and on full time by Tom Healy. Some tries involved great movement of the ball and concerted team work. Luke O’Shea kicked 6 conversions to leave final score at 47-0. All 20 players who took to the pitch contributed well to an outstanding performance and result. Killorglin will take on Tralee or Killarney in the final of the McElligott Cup, the date is yet to be fixed.
