U16

No joy for the U16s as they took on a very strong Castleisland side, who are topping the table in Munster U16 Conference 2, at Ballymalis on Saturday.  Killorglin looked competitive for long stretches and were good with ball in hand, but any mistakes were seized upon and the visitors showed some real quality to take their scores.  Positive aspects for Killorglin were strong lineout and scrum, as well as a great individual performance by centre Donncha Crowley, who seemed to be everywhere.  Killorglin got reward for their efforts at the end of the game when Donnachadh O’Connor crossed for a try after a series of pick and goes in the Castleisland 5m area.  Final score Killorglin 5 Castleisland 22.

U18

Killorglin traveled to Listowel on Saturday 23rd November to play the amalgamated Tralee-Listowel. Killorglin conceded first with a try from the hosts. Tralee-Listowel had threatened the line twice already but were undone once by the referee for a double movement and once by some fine tackling from the Killorglin men. They did however get over wide on the right hand side a few minutes later. The conversion was missed to leave the score at 5-0. Killorglin came back up the field to win a penalty which Jack Evans slotted over from the middle of the pitch. Killorglin soon got into the lead with a well worked try and some good hands from all players to score on the left side which was finished by Jack Coffey. A good effort at the conversion was missed. Killorglin led 8 -5 for a short period but both teams then kicked penalties. 2 for Tralee-Listowel and 1 for Killorglin left the score at 11-11 at half time.

The second half was mostly as tight a game as the first half with Tralee-Listowel getting more of the scoring chances. The home team scored two tries and two penalties to Killorglin’s 1 try (Cormac Doyle) and 1 penalty(Jack Evans). Killorglin played with great pride but with no subs the toll of the tough battle just took it out of them in the end. A performance to be proud from a small but excellent group of rugby players
Team: Stephen Sealey, Chris Scannell, Jamie O’Leary, James Byrne, Shogie O’Sullivan, Jack Evans, Kealan O’Connor, Cormac Doyle, Adam Clarke, Liam Nidegger, Steven O’Sullivan, Joseph Coffey, Conall Whelan, Jack O’Brien, Jack Coffey

Seniors

Killorglin played Bantry Bay at Ballymalis on Sunday November 24th in Munster Junior League. Weather conditions were poor and pitch heavy. Bantry started well but Killorglin defended well and inched their way into the Bantry half. After 17 minutes concerted attacking play Killorglin scored the first try of the game through Josh Morell with conversion by Luke O’Shea. Bantry replied strongly and were only denied by a try saving tackle by Darragh O’Shea. Some time later Bantry blocked down a Killorglin clearance to level scores and this was half time score. Killorglin started strongly in the second half and scored after a succession of carries with a great break by Josh Morell who touched down under the posts. Luke O’Shea added conversion for a lead of 14-7. Shortly after,  Bantry were awarded a penalty that they scored to narrow the gap to 4 points. Ten minutes later, Killorglin were awarded a penalty that Luke O’Shea kicked 17 -10. The last 25 minutes of the game were closely fought but with no further scores Killorglin ended as winners by 17 -10. Next league game away v Douglas Carrigaline on December 1st.
