Killorglin travelled to Tralee for the first game of the season in Kerry cups. Killorglin kicked off into the wind but were soon on the attack. They pressed strongly and were awarded a penalty that was kicked and converted by Luke O’Shea after 5 minutes. Tralee got on the attack after quarter of an hour and pressed for next 15 minutes being held out by strong defence until scoring under the posts to go into a 7-3 lead. Despite getting two yellow cards in first half, Killorglin finished strong scoring a penalty by Luke O’Shea for half time score of 7-6.

Killorglin received kick off on restart and carried strongly up the field. 5 minutes in after great attacking move involving most of the backs Gary O’Keeffe crashed over the line, Luke O’Shea added the extras and that put Killorglin 13-7 ahead. 9 minutes after an excellent kick and chase by Darragh O’Shea Killorglin were awarded a penalty 5 metres out and from a tap Shane O’Neill drove over for try number 2. A few minutes later Jamie O’Leary made his second electrifying break. This time he chipped over the defender, gathered and touched down which with conversion by Luke O’Shea brought score to 25-7 which turned out to be the final score.

This was a strong performance for a first game of the season. Lots to work on but the great debut performances by Jamie O’Leary, Cian Corcoran, Cormac Doyle, Gary O’Keeffe and Trevor West are a huge plus. Tribute to all 20 who played plus 5 more pressing for inclusion. An excellent start to what will be a long season
