U14’s

At the U14 level Killorglin have amalgamated with Iveragh, the team traveled to Listowel for their first competitive game of the year on Saturday.  Listowel got off to a good start scoring 3 tries in the first 15 minutes. Killorglin/Iveragh settled themselves after that, improved immensely and played positive rugby to the end of the half.  Killorglin/Iveragh started the 2nd half on a positive note, they scored 2 tries holding off Listowel physically and winning two scrums against the head. All the players including the substitutes played very well for there first game together. Congratulations to Adam Casey on scoring 2 tries!

U16’s

The U16s played at Ballymalis on Saturday morning, facing Castleisland (always tough opposition) in very wet conditions.   It was an entertaining game between two well matched sides which remained scoreless for most of the first half until the home defense got sucked in a bit too much to the battle around the breakdown and the visitors spread the ball wide to their left winger to exploit the resulting gap and touch down.  After the successful conversion kick Killorglin continued to give at least as good as they got and were unlucky on a few occasions not to turn pressure into points.  The game was stopped for some time in the second half when Killorglin scrum half Aona O’Shea sustained an injury.  The squad and coaches would like to wish Aona a full and speedy recovery. On resumption both teams came close to adding points, but score at the final whistle stayed 0-7.  Throughout the game James Byrne led from the front while Conall Whelan, Rudy Glinwood, Darragh Mangan, Donncha Crowley, Derry O’Sullivan and Ruari Dorrian all made big plays.  Although the result was a disappointment the squad as a whole will take the positives from a decent team performance that on a another day could easily result in a win.

Team:  Ruari Dorrian, Kealan O’Connor, Darragh Mangan, Donncha Crowley, Cathal Daly, James Byrne (C), Aona O’Shea, Mike Teahan, Peadar Whelan, Rudy Glinwood, Jack O’Leary, JP Courtney, Derry O’Sullivan, Jack O’Brien, Conall Whelan. Subs: Ben O’Dwyer, Dylan McDonough, James Prendiville
