U12’s
The u12’s played Corca Dhuibhne in a friendly match on Saturday on the community field in Cromane. The game was a great contest with fantastic defense from both sides. Killorglin were victorious with tries from Dan, Mio, Adam, Mathew and Aaron. There was superb handling and offloading on display, this was exemplified by Cornac who caught a pass he had no right to take before carrying the ball strongly 30 metres up the pitch and offloading to a supporting team mate. Passing by Adam, Rioghan, Alex, Deirdre, Noah, Conor and Callum was excellent all day while Fia, Mio, Paddy, Dylan and Rory hit ruck after ruck. There were impressive carries by Jerry, Zac, Jack, Paddy, Cormac, Dan, Cian and Callum. Thanks to Corca Dhuibhne for travelling and taking part in such an entertaining and sporting game.
Seniors
Killorglin welcomed Charleville to Ballymalis for the last game of the regular season. Charleville drew first blood with a suspect try that came from two Charleville knock on’s, they touched down under the posts and added the spares to lead 7-0. Killorglin had chances to get on the scoreboard but couldn’t get over the line. The score at half-time remained 7-0.
Inside the first 10 minutes of the second half Killorglin got on the scoreboard. A very well worked team try as Killorglin spread the ball to the wing and got the ball into the hands of Liam Griffin. Griffin was 10 meters from the line and did very well to touch down near the touch line. The conversion went just wide to put the scoreline at 7-5 in favour to Charleville.
Charleville then found themselves with a penalty 5 meters from the Killorglin try line. Killorglin were caught sleeping when Charleville took a quick tap and touched down their second try and converted. 14-5 to Charleville.
Killorglin got back into the game with a other very good try. A well executed line out started the play. Quick ball from the back of the rucks saw Killorglin march up the pitch. Finally they made a break for the line. Dave Coffey gave Tom Healy and excellent pass and Healy used great strength to get over the line. Luke O’Shea made no mistake with the conversion. 14-12 to Charleville. As bodies started to tire and with no more subs available the strong Charleville scrum proved too much for the men from puck. Charleville were awarded a penalty try to bring the scoreline to 21-12. The game would finish that way.
Before the game Charleville were in the hunt to top the league but they needed a little help from Fermoy who needed to beat Fethard. Fermoy were trailing and managed to take the lead in the last play of the game defeating Fethard by a single point crowning Charleville the Champions of Division 1 J3. Congratulations to Charleville on the win, we wish you all the best in division 2.
The Killorglin Seniors progress to the Division 1 J3 playoff against Fermoy. Time and date TBC.
