Match played in very warm sunshine at Ballymalis. Killorglin welcomed 5 players to team from last years under 18’s who made their debut’s: James Byrne, Shogie O’Sullivan, Adam Clarke, Jack O’Brien & Stephen O’Sullivan.
Castleisland scored first with a penalty after 4 minutes. Killorglin struck back with good handling ending in try by Cormac Doyle, his first senior try, under the posts converted by Luke O’Shea.
Just after the water break Shane O’Neill scored a try that was converted by Luke O’Shea. Before half time Kyle Byrne scored two tries following good play with one outstanding conversion by Luke O’Shea. Half time score 26 – 3.
An outstanding try was scored 5 minutes into second half by James Byrne, who ran in his first senior try from Killorglin’s own 10 meter line. James’ try was converted by Luke O’Shea. Castleisland applied concerted pressure for 20 minutes but stout defense kept them out. Killorglin made a great transition to attack with great run by Kyle Byrne putting Killorglin deep in opposition 22. Following phases Stephen Cotter scored under the posts converted by Luke O’Shea. In the closing minutes Stephen Cotter scored after a good break with final conversion by Luke O’Shea.
Both teams competed all the game and will have benefited from this.
Next game for Killorglin is away v Corca Dhuibhne in 2 weeks
