Weekend Match Report October 5th & 6th 2019

U16

U16’s welcomed Newcastle West-Estuary to Ballymalis on Saturday afternoon. The conditions were perfect after a morning of heavy rain. Killorglin opened the scoring with a great team try which was completed by Donnacha Crowley dotting down in the corner. Conversion was good from Joe Cronin-Langham. The game turned to Newcastlewest’s favour with a try of their own and a converted penalty. Things got worse for Killorglin when they were shown yellow before halftime. The second half got underway and Newcastlewest-Estusry scored a brilliant try from s perfectly executed cross field kick. They added another try when Killorglin has a second man in the bin. Some redemption came for Killorglin when Donnachadh O’Connor made a great break for the line and ran in near the posts from nearly his own 22. The referee deemed it a penalty try as their was cynical play just before the grounding and the game finished 26-14 in favour of Newcastle-West Estuary

 

Seniors

Closely fought game in good conditions. The game started well at a fast pace with Killorglin in the front foot. Mitchelstown were shown a yellow card for a dangerous clear out and Killorglin were surging forward until Mitchelstown opened scoring with a try, from an intercepted pass, however they failed to convert. Killorglin scored two penalties by Luke O’Shea  to take lead but Mitchelstown regained lead with a penalty for lead of 8 – 6 at half time. Mitchelstown were shown another yellow card before half time and Killorglin started strongly in the second half and Shane O’Neill scored a try converted by Luke O’Shea to regain  lead. No further score for 20 minutes until Luke O’Shea scored a penalty to extend the lead as Killorglin  dominated. The final score of the game was scored by super sub Fionan O’Sullivan effort as he drove and stretched toward the line for Killorglin’s second try of the game. The try was converted by Luke O’Shea for final score of 23 -8. Outstanding play by whole team and great start to the league.
